This chapter focuses on writing a research paper and analyzing and documenting resources. There are various types of sources. The main sources that one may use includes primary secondary and tertiary. Throughout high school, I remember that my teachers focused our attention on mainly primarily and secondary sources. For a project I did about the Civil War, an example of a primary source that I used is the Abraham Lincoln Papers a the Library of Congress which consists of 20,000 documents pertaining to the general correspondence of Abraham Lincoln. A secondary source pertaining to the Civil War includes an encyclopedia by Paul Pierpaoli. Resources can be found about anywhere and can cover a broad range of topics. Most papers require in depth research to not only provide important information but to provide evidence about a general topic. Reading this chapter helped me analyze the different types of sources and how they can be beneficial to different papers. Picking the best source is probably one of the most important steps in preparing to write a research paper. It stands as the backbone of the paper and one must be diligent and take their time when picking a source to ensure it has enough information and evidence to support a specific topic.
