This article unlike the others because it defines what an organization is, aside from Hillel. Organizations are personal connections that are built from passion, persistence, and personal understanding of why an individual is part of this community. This can be beneficial to my paper because it describes what a community is and how it impacts individuals. The article backs up and further provides research on how a community like Hillel strives in a world surrounded with real problems. The information about what a community/organization is, aligns with what Jason Randall had to say during the interview; this research can be used to compare and contrast other organizations with Hillel. This source is different from the others because it is very general. I would likely use the information presented in the article at the beginning of my paper to introduce exactly what a community like Hillel is.

This book focuses on how cultural experiences and activities make an impact on an individual rather than solely through Jewish law (torah). This is important in developing the idea that Jewish union and organization doesn’t just have to be through the ideas and practices of the Torah. Hillel is more about experience and forming a bond with not only the Jewish culture but with the people around you. This is unique from the other sources because it describes the Hillel experience including text such as the Torah.

This article is about how the University of Miami Hillel held a special event called Open Mic Night to raise money for one of their fellow members. After Connor Golden was severely injured this past summer in Central Park, Hillel members decided to take action and make an impact to help and support Connor Golden. According to students, the Hillel community was overwhelming at first but provided love and respect for everyone. This source relates to the research topic because it demonstrates a clear example of how being part of the Hillel community is beneficial, welcoming, and can make an impact on your life. This source is unique because it provides a different perspective of Hillel. It demonstrates that Hillel is a community that takes place worldwide and influences more than just Florida State students.

During my interview with Jason Randall, I was interested in learning more about where the name “Hillel” came from. Hillel was a Jewish rabbi and teacher and was later elected the head of a religious council in Jerusalem. This relates to my research topic as it provides a basis of the history of the Hillel community. While Hillel located here at Florida State University, it originated somewhere and the history is important in how it is organized today. This source will also be utilized to introduce the paper a it is unique from the other sources in describing the history of Hillel and its impact on Hillel today.
“Home.” Hillel at FSU, hillelatfsu.org/.
This source is the main website of Hillel at Florida State University. When accessing this website, a student can learn more about Hillel and the specific community on campus. The website presents the range of events that are held which include Hanukkah in July, stir-fry Shabbat, leboard meetings, and birthright trips. The website clearly describes the community as a place where students, staff, and leaders are dedicated in providing a welcoming, pluralistic, and inclusive atmosphere on campus. This source relates to my topic by forming a base for Hillel. The information provided by this website can be used to introduce the paper and explain exactly what Hillel is. This source is different from the others because it provides technological research that is directly related to the individual Hillel at FSU. This source provides detailed descriptions of the broad range of events that are held at Hillel. This gives students the opportunity to learn more about them and a chance to participate. This source provides a different aspect of Hillel, but can potentially distract my paper from the unique experience of Hillel at the specific FSU campus.
J. Randall, personal communication, June 9, 2018
I interviewed Jason Randall at the Hillel office located on the Florida State campus. During the interview I learned more about the community and what occurs day to day. Jason Randall gave me insight on what it’s like being part of Hillel, considering he is an active student member. This interview can help develop my paper by providing research to why I want to be a part of the community and how it has influenced many students like himself. This source is unlike others because it gives direct research on how Hillel has developed and impacted Jason Randall’s life while giving insight to his direct experience with the community.

This article outlines the history of Hillel. Hillel had an “undeserved” reputation even causing the individual word “Hillel” to become a questionable symbol. This article is relevant to my research paper because it demonstrates how such an old concept is still beneficial to society and how the traditions of Hillel have lasted. Hillel, then and now, believes in student empowerment. During my research the one thing that was ingrained in my brain was that Hillel is raising the future leaders of the world. This source is unique from the others as it describes the history of Hillel, while my other sources outline what Hillel is like in the present. I find most interesting that Hillel started at the bottom of the Jewish communal food chain to the near top.
